Belt & Disc Sander
The following list of health and safety procedures and rules to ensure
safe operation is not exhaustive.
Health and safety
- Ear protection must be worn
- Eye protection must be worn
- Dust mask must be worn
- Exhaust must be on
- Hair must be tied, no loose items (lanyards/ ties/ necklaces/ loose clothing etc. ) should be worn during operation
- Sturdy footwear must be worn - no sandals!
- Never carry out maintenance on the machine
- Never attempt to change or adjust the belt or disc
- always keep fingers more than 1 inch from the belt/ disc
- Never leave the machine unattended while running
- Keep the work area clean and free of debris - before and after using the machine!
- Know the location of the emergency off switch before operating the machine
Rules to ensure safe operation
- Check and adjust bed before operating sander
- Before turning the sander on make sure your work/ any scrap material is not touching the belt/ disc
- Wait for sander to come to full speed before sanding materials
- if the belt sander is not tracking properly (the belt is moving left/right instead of remaining stationary) turn the machine off and inform a technician
- sand on the downward side (left side) of the disc sander
- do not force material into the belt/ disc, always sand lightly
- never sand small pieces! do these by hand
- wait for machine to come to a complete stop before making adjustments
- leave the machine clean and tidy
