SMD Soldering Stations
There are 2 machines in this area, which can be used to help solder, or re-work (re-solder) surface mount components onto PCBs.
Safety
Machine 1 - WEP 899D Hot Air Station
This machine blows directed hot air from a nozzle. It works similarly to the hot air gun except that the temperature can be more accurately controlled and the nozzle is much more direct.
- DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER METAL PART
- DO NOT DIRECT AIR NEAR EXPOSED SKIN
- Be careful not to heat the same patch of board for too long or the layers of the board can come apart.
- The soldering is complete when the solder paste changes from dull and grey to shiny and reflective.
Machine 2 - Metcal PCT-100 Board Pre-Heater
This machine uses convective heating to preheat a board so that when direct hot air is applied, it is quick to melt the solder paste.
- DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER METAL PART
- DO NOT PLACE HAND OVER AIR OUTLET
- Give the machine around 90 seconds to heat the board before applying heat from the hot air nozzle for the best results. This partly melts the solder paste, adhering the components to the board.
